On Friday June 27th Central Office dispatch a still alarm for Engine 9 Ladder 1 Chief 1 to the Coleman A. Young Municipal building for a report of a unknown fire. Upon arrival and investigation Chief 1 requested the box for smoke showing. The Senior Chief (Car 203) also responded to this box and assumed command upon arrival. The fire was located in the basement of the building in an electrical transformer. Car 203 requested the hazmat unit to the scene for possible pcb's in the transformer. Companies operated at this scene for aprox. 4 hours. Numerous Special calls were made on this Box for addtl companies for manpower relief and staging. This was the equivalent of a 3rd Alarm after the Special Calls.
