Engine Co. 31 & Rescue Squad 4 100th Anniversary 7-19-2008 : On Saturday July 19th 2008 Detroit Fire Department Engine Company 31 & Tactical Manpower Squad 4 Located at 1697 W Grand Blvd & Cobb Place celebrated its 100th Year of Service. The original 1937 Engine 31 a 1937 Seagrave Safety Sedan Pumper was also made available for display at the Firehouse and it can also be seen at the Michigan Firehouse Museum in Ypsilanti. Many Current Member and Retired members of the Detroit Fire Department we in attendance. Congrats to Engine Co. 31 & Tactical Manpower Squad 4 for a 100 years of service to the residents of the City of Detroit and Hopefully another 100 to Go....

Detroit 2nd Alarm McGraw & Campbell 7-13-08 : On Sunday July 13th 2008, Compaines were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire on Mcgraw Between Campbell & Parkside. Upon Arrival 2 large 2-family flats were found going throughout spreading to 2 addtl same type dwelling. Chief 7 called for 2 extra engines and squad on the box and then requested a 2nd alarm due to the rapid spread of fire to expousure dwellings. This Fire was brought under control in aprox an hour and a half using a 2nd Alarm assignment.

Detroit Box Alarm Evanston & Barrett Dwelling Fire 7-12-08 : On Saturday July 12th 2008, Detroit Central Office dispatched a reported dwelling fire at Evanston & Barrett. Upon arrival of Engine 46 they reported a vacant dwelling going throughout and they were stretching. Chief 9 arrived on scene and established command and requested a 4th engine as the RIT. The fire was was brought under control in aprox. 30 mins using the full box alarm. Engine 46/50/52/58 Ladder 19 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this Box.

Detroit Box Alarm With Numerous Special Calls (4th Alarm Equv) 2 Woodward Ave Coleman A. Young Municipal Center 6-27-08 : On Friday June 27th Central Office dispatch a still alarm for Engine 9 Ladder 1 Chief 1 to the Coleman A. Young Municipal building for a report of a unknown fire. Upon arrival and investigation Chief 1 requested the box for smoke showing. The Senior Chief (Car 203) also responded to this box and assumed command upon arrival. The fire was located in the basement of the building in an electrical transformer. Car 203 requested the hazmat unit to the scene for possible pcb's in the transformer. Companies operated at this scene for aprox. 4 hours. Numerous Special calls were made on this Box for addtl companies for manpower relief and staging. This was the equivalent of a 3rd Alarm after the Special Calls.

Detroit Box Alarm W Boston & Mcquade 6-27-08 : On Friday June 27th Detroit Central Office dispatched a box alarm for a fire reported in a dwelling at w Boston Between Dexter & Mcquade. Upon arrival of E39 they advised they were stretching and a Dwelling with people jumping from the building and EMS was requested. A extra Engine Truck and Squad was requested by the incident commander. This fire was brought under control in about 2 hours using the full assignment plus extra companies for manpower. Engine 39/49/17/40/44 Ladders 28/17 Squad 5/4 Chief 5 responded to this box alarm.

Upon arrival Engine 58 stretched on the occupied dwelling. Chief 9 requested a 4th engine co. for a RIT Team. The Fire was brought under control in aprox. 25 mins. Upon arrival of Engine 56 they advised they had a working fire and they were stretching on an occupied dwelling. The fire was quickly knocked down. Detroit Box Alarm Corbett & Newport 5-31-08 : On Saturday May 31th companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Corbett & Newport. Upon arrival of Engine 50 they reported and working fire and they would be stretching. The fire in occupied dwelling was quickly knocked down. Using the full box alarm. The fire was knocked down and companies were in service within 30 mins. Engines 50/58/52 Truck 23 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Maxwell & I-94 2 Dwellings 5-28-08 W/ Video : On Wednesday May 28th 2008 Detroit Fire companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Maxwell & I-94 Service Drive. While enroute Engine 23 reported smoke showing and upon arrival advised they were stretching on 2 dwellings going. The officer of E-23 then requested an extra engine & truck for manpower. The fire was brought under control in aprox. 1 hour using the full box alarm assignment. Engines 23/46/9/52 Ladders 19/10 Squad 3 and Chief 1 responded to this alarm.

Midnight Detroit 8th Battalion companies were dispatched to a box alarm for a reported dwelling fire at Penrose & Charleston. Upon arrival of Truck 18 they advised the 1st engine would be stretching on a vacant dwelling going throughout. Engine 44 arrived on scene and stretched on the dwelling. the fire was brought under control using the full box alarm assignment in approx. 40 mins. Engines 44/56/51 Truck 18 Squad 5 and Chief 8 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Pingree & Second 5-1-08 : On Thursday May 1st 2008 Detroit 5th Battalion companies responded to a reported dwelling fire at Pingree & Second. Upon Arrival of Engine 39 they advised they were stretching on a vacant dwelling going throughout. Chief 5 then requested an additional company for RIT. Upon arrival of the Chief and building size up this fire was fought in defensive mode. The fire was brought under control using the full box alarm assignment plus an extra 2 engines & truck in about an hour and a half. Engine 39/35/17/5/23 Ladders 7/28 Squad 2 and Chief 5 responded to this box alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Owen & John R 4-17-08 : On Thursday April 17th 2008, Detroit Fire Department Communications dispatch a box alarm to Owen Between John R & Brush for a reported dwelling fire. Upon arrival of Engine 35 they advised they had a working fire and they would be stretching. Chief 5 arrived on the scene and assumed command and requested a fourth engine for RIT. A interior attack was made on the dwelling. and as crews made the attic and conditions did not improve Chief 5 evacuated the fire building and set up the tower for an exterior attack. The fire in the 2.5 story dwelling was brought under control in aprox. 1 hour using the full box alarm assignment. Engines 35/39/17/5 Ladder 7 Squad 3 and Chief 5 responded to this Box Alarm.

Detroit Box Alarm Hunt & Joseph Campau 4-5-08 : On Saturday April 5th 2008, Detroit 1st Battalion companies responded to a box alarm for a fire reported in a dwelling at Hunt & Joseph Campau. While enroute central office advised Detroit Police were on the scene reporting a working fire. Upon arrival of Squad 3 they reported a dwelling going throughout and the 1st engine will stretch. Also information was received that there was possibly someone trapped in the dwelling. The fire was brought under control in aprox 1 hour, Using the full box alarm assignment plus and extra engine for RIT. A primary and secondary search was completed on the dwelling with no occupants found. Engines 23/9/5/1 Ladders 6/10 Squad 3 and Chief 1 responded to this box alarm.

On Monday Febuary 25th 2008 Ritchie Volunteers Engine Co. 837 while on a pre-plan walk thru was alerted to stand-by for a report of a house fire, At 2102 Ode Rd. Upon arrival of Engine 837 a occupied 2 story wood frame dwelling was found with heavy smoke showing. Engine 837 stretched 150' foot bumper line and 1 pre-connect on the dwelling and made an aggressive interior attack and had the fire knocked down within a half hour of the intital attack.

Chicago Still & Box Alarm 5900 Laflin 1-21-08 : CHICAGO: On Sunday Jan. 21, the Englewood Fire Alarm Office (E.F.A.O) Dispatched a Still Alarm for a report of a House Fire with people trapped to 5700 block of Laflin Between 57th & 58th Streets. 

The Office Dispatched the alarm as a Still & Box after there were multiple calls and reports of people trapped in the fire building. 

When firefighters from Engine Co. 116 arrived, they reported that they were on the scene with a fire and attempted to start a search. Upon a primary search of the fire building, Squad Company #5 members made a rescue of a 2-year-old child from the structure and the other injured family member was able to self evacuate from the building. There were a total of 12 family members in the building at the time of the fire and all were able to exit the building except the two victims that were injured. The two injured victims were transported by CFD EMS yellow to the hospital (Non-Life Threatening). 

Offensive attack on the fire was terminated per DDC-5 upon review of fire conditions and Command went Defensive on this fire. The fire was brought under control in about an hour and a half using several handlines, E116's Deck gun and a Tower Ladder. 

The cause of the fire was determined to be careless use of a space heater. The structure was a total loss.

Detroit Box Alarm Joseph Campau & Arndt 1-3-08 : On Wednesday, January 3, 2008, Detroit Central Office dispatched a Box Alarm for a fire reported in a dwelling at Joseph Campau & Arndt. While enroute Ladder 10 advised they could see it and the first engine would be stretching. Upon arrival Ladder 10 took command until arrival of the chief and requested an additional engine on the box. Fire was in a vacant 2.5 story dwelling with fire throughout. This fire was fought defensive until conditions improved and entry was allowed for an interior attack. The fire was brought under control in approx. 1 hour using the full box alarm. Engine 23/9/1/5, Ladder 10, Squad 3 and Chief 1 responded to this Box Alarm.

Upon arrival of Engine 50 they advised they had smoke showing and were stretching passing command. Chief 9 assumed command upon arrival. Fire was in a 1.5 story vacant dwelling with origin of fire in the basement. Engines 50/58/60 Ladder 19 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this box alarm. Companies operated for aprox. 45 minutes.

Detroit Peter Hunt & Robert 3-1-08 : On Saturday March 1st 2008, At aprox 2220 hours,  Detroit Central Office dispatched a Still alarm for Engine 23 & Ladder 30 to the area of Peter Hunt & Robert for companies checking for a possible dwelling fire. Upon arrival of Engine 23 they advised they were stretching on a dwelling and requesting the box. Central office sent the remainder of the box alarm assignment. Companies were responding outside there first alarm districts due to numerous other fires, low manpower and a extra alarm fire all going on at the same time. There was also a bad hydrant right in front of the fire building, Engine 23 had to stretch down the block to the next working hydrant. Engines 23/60/32/46 Ladder 30 Squad 6 and Chief 9 responded to this box alarm. Companies operated for aprox. 2 hours working on suppression and overhaul.
